MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - Chris Moss scored a career-high 29 points while Tim Lyles hit five of his 17 points in the second overtime as West Virginia outlasted Villanova 107-100 Tuesday night.
The outcome kept alive West Virginia's slim hopes for an NCAA tournament bid, but the Mountaineers (16-8, 7-6 Big East) must play two of their final three regular-season games on the road.
The loss may have knocked Villanova (15-10, 6-7) out of the tournament, barring a great run in next month's league tournament.
Lionel Armstead scored 24 points and Calvin Bowman had 22 for West Virginia. Moss had 16 rebounds.
West Virginia, which overcame a 13-point deficit to send the game into the first overtime, never trailed in the second extra session after Armstead hit a running jumper 19 seconds into the period.
Leading 100-96, Lyles chased down a loose inbounds pass and fed Moss for a dunk with 47 seconds left.
Lyles then stole a pass, was fouled, and hit a free throw eight seconds later. He made 5-of-6 free throws in the final 39 seconds.
West Virginia made 34-of-51 free throws in the game while Villanova went 17-of-27.
The game was tied at 75 after regulation and at 88 after the first overtime.
Michael Bradley had 22 points and 18 rebounds for Villanova. Ricky Wright scored 22 points and Derrick Snowden and Gary Buchanan had 18 apiece.
Villanova is 1-8 this season when opponents score more than 80 points.
