Men's Basketball Improves to 3-1 on European Tour

The Villanova Men's Basketball team posted another convincing victory on Tuesday night defeating Castel Maggiore, an Italian club team by a score of 85-68. The 'Cats jumped out to a 15-2 advantage in the game's first five minutes and led 22-12 at the end of the first quarter. Villanova's halftime lead stood at 16 points and the Wildcats would not look back as they cruised to the eventual victory.

With the win, Villanova improves its record to 3-1 on their tour of Italy.

Five different players finished the game in doubles figures for the 'Cats. Junior Gary Buchanan led the way with 19 points in addition to five rebounds and four assists. Senior forward Brooks Sales posted his second consecutive double-double scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Andrew Sullivan tallied 13 points off 4-of-6 shooting to go with five rebounds, Derrick Snowden chipped in with 13 points and Andreas Bloch came off the bench to contribute 10 points. The Wildcats shot 30-for-55 from the floor connecting on 43% of their attempts from behind the arc while holding Castel Maggiore to 42% from the field.

The Wildcats will return to action Wednesday night in the final of the two game tournament against the winner of the ADR Roma/Basket Rimini, two Italian professional teams playing in the other semi-final game.

After the final game on Wednesday night, the 'Cats will enjoy their three remaining days experiencing the Italian culture in Rome before returning home on Sunday, Aug. 26th.
