No. 1 Connecticut Too Strong for Villanova

VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) - Asjha Jones scored 19 points and Swin Cash had 17 as No. 1 Connecticut remained undefeated with a 93-60 romp over Villanova on Saturday.

UConn (20-0, 6-0 Big East) never struggled, using a 25-8 run to open the second half to put away the Wildcats.

Diana Taurasi and Ashley Battle each added 15 for the Huskies, who have defeated Big East opponents by an average of 49 points this season.

Trish Juhline scored 21, including four 3-pointers, to lead Villanova (10-6, 4-2). Mimi Riley added 10 points, but shot only 3-for-14.

UConn stepped up its defensive pressure in the second half, holding Villanova to 26 points. The Wildcats came away empty-handed on numerous possessions as UConn stepped into passing lanes and forced bad shots.

Connecticut shot well from everywhere - 61 percent from the floor, 5-for-8 from behind the 3-point line and 16-of-18 at the free-throw line. It outrebounded Villanova 43-19.

Villanova's only threat in the half came from Juhline, who shot 4-for-4 from behind the arc.

Villanova kept it respectable in the first half with 8-for-12 shooting on 3s, but UConn's big rebounding advantage - 24-7 at halftime - and solid shooting helped the Huskies take a 19-point lead.

Courtney Mix and Katie Davis, who each average more than 11 points per game, combined for 10 points for Villanova.
