All six of the local Division I men's basketball teams will be at the historic Palestra on Saturday, Nov. 9 for the Philly Six Coaches vs. Cancer Open Practice.
Each team will practice for 45 minutes on The Palestra floor and will then hold a 15-minute autograph session. There will also be shooting contests and raffles throughout the afternoon. The 2001-02 Philadelphia Big 5 Champions, the Penn Quakers, will be the final team to take the court on Saturday.
Here is the schedule for Open Practice - 11 a.m. - Drexel Noon - La Salle 1 p.m. - Temple 2 p.m. - Saint Joseph's 3 p.m. - Villanova 4 p.m. - Penn
The Coaches vs. Cancer program was created in 1993 by the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches. In 1999 the Women's Basketball Coaches Association joined the program. Coaches vs. Cancer leverages the celebrity of our nation's coaches to raise awareness of key cancer issues and to raise money for the American Cancer Society's mission. The program has raised over $13.5 million to benefit the American Cancer Society with events including the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, Coaches vs. Cancer Challenge, Midnight Practice Events, coaches clinics and local game activities.
There is no admission charge.
