PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Ugonna Onyekwe had 22 points and nine assists and Jeff Schiffner added 19 points as Penn defeated local rival Villanova, 72-58, on Tuesday.
The Quakers (3-2) shot the ball well from the field, making 25-of-51 (49 percent). Onyekwe was 9-of-16 and Schiffner made 6-of-9, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range.
Andrew Toole added 10 points for Penn, which has won two in a row over local rivals after crushing Temple 71-46 on Saturday. It was the Quakers' largest victory over Villanova since 1974, when they won an 83-61 decision.
Penn was 11-of-22 from beyond the 3-point arc. In their last two games, the Quakers have made 26-of-39 from 3-point range.
Ricky Wright had 15 points and Gary Buchanan added 11 for Villanova (4-3), which lost two of the last three.
Penn, which led by 11 at halftime, extended the advantage to 16 in the second half when a driving layup by Onyekwe capped a 12-4 run and made it 55-39.
The Wildcats scored seven of the next nine, but two 3-pointers by Schiffner and an alley-oop to Onyekwe extended the lead to 15 again.
The Quakers opened up a 36-25 halftime lead after scoring 17 of the last 25 points before the break. Onyekwe had 14 points in the half as Penn made 15-of-29 from the field.
The game was played at the First Union Center, the home of the NBA 76ers and NHL Flyers. It is one of four home games being played there by Villanova this season.
