Men's Golf Finishes Fourteenth At Colonial Intercollegiate

WILLIAMSBURG, VA. ----- On day two of the Colonial Intercollegiate, the Villanova golf team shaved four strokes off its first round score, but fell two spots to finish the tournament 14th overall. The Wildcat golfers combined to shoot a team score of 626 (315-311, +50). The tournament includes 18 collegiate teams and consists of two rounds played on the par-72, 6,868-yard Golden Horseshoe Golf Course in Williamsburg, Va.

Elon University (582) came back from a first round showing of third to take the team title at the tournament. Host William & Mary (585) took second overall, edging out first round leader James Madison (589) which placed third. The individual medalist of the tournament was William & Mary freshman Adam Holman (Austin, TX) who finished with a two-round score of three-under-par.

The top Wildcat finisher, freshman Charlie Nettleton (Lisle, Ill.), finished 38th overall. Nettleton shaved four strokes of his first round score to finish 10-over-par (79-75, 154). Freshman Ben Eisner (Nags Head, N.C.) finished one stroke behind Nettleton and placed 43rd overall. Eisner fired a two-round total of 155 (79-76).

Other top finishers for Villanova include freshman Shawn Standen (Avon Lakes, Ohio) who scored a two-day total of 156 (77-79, +12). Just two strokes separated the top three Wildcat finishers.

Sophomores Matt Gugino (Leroy, N.Y.) and John Keller (Bayside, N.Y.) each finished the tournament in 75th with a 19-over-par, 163.

The Wildcats will return home and prepare for the Navy Invitational to be held on April 5-7 in Annapolis, Md.
