PHILADELPHIA, PA. - On Thursday, April 25, the Villanova track & field team competed in day one of the famed Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia. The Wildcat women's DMR team placed fifth, crossing the finish line in a time of 11:29.57.
Winning the women's DMR for the second consecutive year was North Carolina, which posted a time of 11:00.30. Rounding out the top five were Stanford in second (11:10.00), Georgetown in third (11:18.12), Texas in fourth (11:28.17) and Villanova in fifth.
Rebecca Mitchell ran the first leg of the DMR for the `Cats, finishing the 1200m in 3:24.7. Nicole Bridgwood posted a 56.1 in the 400m second leg. Holly Cosnett recorded a 2:13.7 in the 800m third leg. The final leg of the relay was run by Kalin Toedebusch, who finished her 1600m leg in 4:54.73.
Tomorrow, Mitchell and Toedebusch will team with Carre Joyce and Ioana Parusheva to make up Villanova's 4x1500m relay team, which will compete at 12:50 p.m. The Wildcat men's DMR squad will compete later in the afternoon tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.
Two Villanova throwers also competed today in the Women's College Eastern Shot Put. Melinda Boykin placed fourth with a throw of 43-10.50. Sylvia Taggert finished 17th in the shot put recording a measurement of 39-09.75.
