LAHAINA, Hawaii (AP) - Kashif Reyes scored eight of his 10 points in the final 2? minutes to help Chaminade beat Villanova 52-49 Monday in the opening round of the Maui Invitational and snap a 30-game losing streak in the tournament it hosts.

The win was nowhere near the Division II school's most famous - it beat then-No. 1 Virginia and Ralph Sampson 77-72 on Dec. 23, 1982 - but it did set off an on-court celebration at the Lahaina Civic Center.

The Silverswords' last win in the tournament was in the seventh-place game in 1992 in double overtime over Stanford. This win lifts their record in the tournament to 4-53.

Chaminade will play the winner of the Hawaii-Santa Clara game in Tuesday's semifinals.

Reyes, a native of Reading, Pa., came up big against the school from his home state. He hit a 3-pointer with 2:29 left that brought Chaminade (1-0) within 46-44 and he nailed another one from beyond the arc with 1:44 to play that gave the Silverswords the lead for good at 47-46.

Sam Henning and Reyes each sandwiched two free throws around one by Villanova's Will Sheridan to make it 51-47 with 13 seconds left.

Villanova (2-1), which played just seven players as the team continues to serve out suspensions from last season over the misuse of a university telephone access code, had one last chance to tie.

Roy Stigall made the first of two free throws for Chaminade with 5.7 seconds left to make it 52-49 and Randy Foye's 3-point attempt bounced off the rim just before the buzzer and the Silverswords charged the court to celebrate.

Stigall led Chaminade with 14 points and Henning had 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Allan Ray had 19 points for Villanova, while Foye had 12 points and seven assists and Chris Charles had eight points and 12 rebounds. The Wildcats were playing their third game in four days in three time zones.

Chaminade led 28-20 at halftime after Villanova managed just two points over the final 8:50 of the half. The Wildcats went up 44-37 on a free throw by Ray with 7:08 to play, but they managed just two field goals the rest of the way.
