Matt Starker Named CAA Rookie of the Week

Villanova, Pa. - Freshman Matt Starker of the #18 Villanova men's lacrosse has been named Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week for the week of April 7. In two games, the midfielder from Summit, N.J., scored a team-high six goals.

Against Bucknell on April 2, Starker scored two goals as the Wildcats fell 7-6. On April 6 Starker was awarded his first career start in replace of the injured Dave Cacciabeve. Starker tallied a career-high 4 goals en route to a 13-5 Villanova victory over Stony Brook. Head Coach Randy Marks stated in regards to Starkers play, "he is a smart player and was able to adjust to playing with the first line of midfielders easily...we can put him with anyone on the field."

On the season Starker is tied for second on the team with 14 goals. His three assists on the year gives the freshman 17 points, which is third on the Wildcats. "Matt is playing as well as any of our middies as a freshman and its like he's already played three years of collegiate lacrosse" said Marks.
