Villanova Women's Soccer Blanks Youngstown State, 3-0

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Villanova women's soccer team scored three goals in the first half en route to a 3-0 victory over Youngstown State on Friday night at Stambaugh Stadium. The win improved the Wildcats record to 11-5-1 overall on the year.

The `Cats got on the scoreboard in the 17th minute of play when Kelly Breslin connected off a corner kick from Laura Johnson. The assist by Johnson put the senior forward in a tie for the school's all-time assist mark at 28 with Cathy Ford.

Jamie Weist added the Wildcats' second goal of the game when she fired a shot that hit the post and fell in to give Villanova a 2-0 lead. Nikki Mabery closed out the scoring two minutes later when she connected on a header inside the box.

Villanova dominated on offense out-shooting YSU 30-1 and out-cornering the Penguins 5-0. Junior keeper Caitlin Bestard recorded 14 saves for the Penguins. Posting the shutout in net for the Wildcats was sophomore Jillian Loyden. The shutout was her eighth of the season.

Villanova will wind down the regular season on Sunday, Oct. 24th, traveling to Pittsburgh, Pa., to take on the Pittsburgh Panthers at 1:00 p.m.
