Villanova Women's Soccer Downs Pittsburgh in Regular Season Finale

PITTSBURGH, PA. - The Villanova women's soccer team defeated the Pittsburgh Panthers, 3-1, on Sunday in Pittsburgh to finish the regular season 12-5-1 overall and 5-4-1 in BIG EAST Conference play. The next destination for the Wildcats will be BIG EAST Championship play with opponent, site and date to be determined. The Panthers' record fell to 6-9-1 overall and 2-6-1 in the Big East.

The first half of play went scoreless, despite Villanova out-shooting Pittsburgh by the count of 12-5.

The first goal of the game was scored by Villanova's Erica Stewart and assisted by Jamie Weist in the 47th minute. The goal came in the first six minutes of play in the second half, when Weist hit Stewart with a short cross and Stewart launched a shot from eight yards that found the back of the net.

Less then five minutes later, the second goal of the game was scored by Villanova's Laura Johnson with the assist coming from Stewart. The shot came from outside the penalty box to the far corner of the goal.

Pittsburgh was able to answer one of Villanova's goals in the 78th minute. Kristina Francois took a corner kick for the Panthers. The ball found the head of Sebesta who was able to put the ball past Wildcat keeper Jillian Loyden.

The final goal of the game came in the 85th minute of play. A shot outside the 18 by Villanova's Regina Villari put the game away, as Villanova went on for the 3-1 win. The assist came from Weist - her second of the game.

Loyden notched the win in net for the Wildcats to improve her mark to 12-5-1 on the year. Jamie Pelusi took the loss in net for Pittsburgh, despite saving eight shots.
