VILLANOVA, PA. - Wildcat junior Shannon Williams (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) was named Eastern College Athletic Conference softball pitcher of the week on Apr. 13. Williams threw the second perfect game in school history against Drexel last Thursday, and finished the week 2-0 while giving up one unearned run on two hits, walking none and striking out 19 in 14 innings of work.
In addition to the 8-0 win over Drexel, Williams was also the winning pitcher in the first game of a doubleheader split with Rutgers, a 9-2 Wildcat triumph. She then came on to pitch scoreless relief in game two.
The right-hander was named Big East pitcher of the week on Monday, and joins teammate Ricci Lugo as the two Wildcats to be recognized by the ECAC this season. Lugo was named player of the week on Mar. 30.
For the season, Williams owns a 13-7 record with a 1.64 earned run average. Villanova, 18-13 on the year, is back in action today, Apr. 14, with a doubleheader against Lehigh.
