TOP STORIES
This afternoon's game marks the first time in the 20 year history of the Pavilion that two teams ranked in the top five of the Associated Press poll have faced one another. In its most recent encounter with a top five team on campus, Villanova defeated No. 3 Boston College here 76-70.
Sophomore guard Kyle Lowry established a new career high with 20 points in Villanova's 86-57 victory over Rider on Wednesday night at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, N.J. That effort eclipsed his previous top performance of 18 points in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament last March against North Carolina.
The Wildcats have won three consecutive games to open a campaign for the first time since 1998. Villanova began that season with a 5-0 mark, which included the Top of the World Classic title.
USA Basketball named Jay Wright its co-developmental coach of the year this week for his efforts in steering Team USA to the World University Games crown in August. Oklahoma's Kelvin Sampson won the award in 2004. Wright and USA Basketball participants Randy Foye and Allan Ray will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
