VILLANOVA, Pa. - Junior forward Curtis Sumpter (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin H.S.) was honored today for his work in helping the Wildcats to wins over Bucknell, Seton Hall and No. 17 Pittsburgh last week. The Big East Conference named him co-player of the week along with Connecticut forward Charlie Villanueva while the Philadelphia Big Five named him player of the week.

In three games, Sumpter averaged 19.0 points and 4.3 rebounds per outing. On Thursday, his 25 points and seven rebounds were instrumental in helping Villanova pick up its first win at Seton Hall since 1995 (66- 52). Then on Sunday Sumpter provided 18 points in 28 minutes as the `Cats downed No. 17 Pittsburgh at the Pavilion.

This marks the second time in Sumpter's career that he has been cited as Big East player of the week. His previous award came in December of 2003.

Villanova hosts Boston College at the Pavilion this Wednesday at 9:00 p.m. The game will be televised nationally by ESPN2.
