Sumpter and Ray Lead Villanova's Big Five Honorees

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Philadelphia Big Five announced its annual award winners today and the list includes six representatives from Villanova.

Juniors Allan Ray (Bronx, N.Y.) and Curtis Sumpter (Brooklyn, N.Y.) were named to the Big Five's first team. They join Saint Joseph's Pat Carroll (tabbed Big Five Outstanding Player), La Salle's Steven Smith and Temple's Mardy Collins on the first team.

Junior Randy Foye (Newark, N.J.) and sophomore Mike Nardi were selected to the All-Big Five second team along with Dwayne Jones of Saint Joseph's and Tim Begley and Ibrahim Jaaber of Penn.

Freshman Kyle Lowry was named Big Five Rookie of the Year while Ray earned the honor as the Big Five's top free throw shooter. In addition, Jay Wright was named Big Five Coach of the Year.

The award winners will be honored at the annual Herb Good Dinner on Monday, April 25, at Colleen's, 22nd Street and the Parkway. Tickets for the 60th annual banquet can be obtained by calling the Big Five office (215-898-4747) or Al Shrier at Temple University (215-204-2222).
