Aug. 25, 2005

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Arby Busey has been hired as an assistant coach for the Villanova women's soccer program, the Athletic Department announced this week. Busey began his duties at Villanova on August 10, and will serve as the top assistant to head coach Ann Clifton.

Busey comes to Villanova with a great deal of coaching experience, most recently as the head women's soccer coach at the University of Idaho. As an assistant coach at Idaho from 2000-2002, Busey was responsible for working with the goalkeepers and field players, and assisted with recruiting, monitoring academic progress and running summer camps. He was promoted to head coach in 2002, and remained in that position through the 2004 season.

Busey also has coached extensively in the club and ODP ranks. He was a staff coach for the Region IV ODP team from 2001-2004, and also coached the state girls team in the Idaho Youth Soccer Association from 2003 to 2005. Busey was responsible for training and evaluating the players chosen to represent the state, and helped to identify players who were selected for the Region IV pool.

Prior to his involvement with the ODP squad, Busey was an assistant coach for the state boys team in the Washington State Youth Soccer Association. He also was the team head coach for the Washington Soccer Club from 1997-2000, where he worked with the U-16 and U-17 teams.

Busey played varsity soccer for the Wildcats during his collegiate career, and graduated from Villanova in 1993. He then went on to begin his coaching career at Mercer Island High School as an assistant varsity coach and head junior varsity coach from 1994-1998.

Busey is single and makes his home in the Philadelphia area.
