Villanova Bounces Back With 108-61 Rout of Rider

VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) - Curtis Sumpter scored 22 points, Dante Cunningham added 14 and Villanova scored 22 consecutive points during one stretch in a 108-61 victory over Rider on Wednesday.

Will Sheridan scored 13, Dwayne Anderson added 12, Mike Nardi contributed 11 and Shane Clark had 10 points and a career-high 12 rebounds for the Wildcats (8-2), who played their first game since losing at home to Drexel on Dec. 9.

Terrance Mouton led the Broncs (6-4) with 16 points while Jason Thompson added 14.

Villanova scored the final 12 points of the first half for a 46-25 advantage, Clark accounting for the last five with a 3-pointer and two free throws in the final 1:58. The Wildcats also scored the first 10 points of the second half for a 22-0 combined spurt between halves.

A basket by Will Sheridan and two 3-pointers and layup by Nardi helped Villanova to a commanding 56-25 lead. The Wildcats, who held a 48-21 rebounding advantage, improved to 23-1 overall against Rider with their only loss coming in 1944.
