New York, N.Y. - The women's DMR team set a world-leading time in the distance medley relay, as well as a facility record and an NCAA automatic qualifying time, when it ran the DMR in 11:05.08. Freshman Sean Tully headed up an excellent first day for the men with a win in the 800m as both teams competed in day one of the NYC Collegiate Invite.
The women's DMR team was led off by Frances Koons [3:23] for the 1200m leg, Tiera Fletcher ran 55 seconds for the 400m leg, handing it off to Arusha McKenzie for the 800m portion in a time of 2:11. Marina Muncan anchored the relay in a duel with North Carolina in the last 200m; she split 4:34.
On the men's side, the Wildcats were led by Tully who won the 800m championship in a time of 1:51.75, beating out an elite field with his blistering kick in the last 150m.
Also, the men's 4x800m relay took home gold in the championship section. The team of Terence Byrnes, Dan Tully, Mark Korich, and Bobby Curtis posted a time of 7:38.51.
Drew Eckman [1:02.59, 3rd] showed great form along with John Wilsman [1:03.79, 5th] in the 500m.
