BCC Box Score

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - Villanova softball lost in the final game of the UCF Invitational Sunday morning falling, 4-3, in nine innings to Bethune-Cookman College (7-9). The two teams had squared off earlier in the tournament and Villanova had come out on top, 5-4, in a ten inning thriller. The loss dropped `Nova to 1-4 on the weekend and 2-7 for the season. The Wildcats' bright spot came in the form of freshman Meghan Morese (Laguna Hills, Calif.) who had two home runs to give her three for the weekend.

The contest was tied until the third inning when BCC scored two runs to put some pressure on the Wildcats. Morese answered with her first home run of the day with no one on making the score 2-1. Later in the sixth, she came up and knocked another one over the center field wall to tie it up. This would be Morese's last opportunity to get a hit as BCC intentionally walked her in the eighth during her last at bat of the day.

Moving into the top of the ninth, BCC rallied for two hits to take the lead. After getting on base off of an error and advancing on a sacrifice bunt, the second baseman, Tiffany Bowser, came up and hit a double to drive in one run. A stolen base a solid hit drove in the second making it 4-2. Villanova had a chance to answer in the bottom of the inning, but was unable to get anything going.

Morese led the team in hits going 2-3, sophomore Jessica Curtis (Yorba Linda, Calif.) went 1-2 and Lisa Curran (Las Vegas, Nev.) was 1-1 at the plate. Kat Walsh had six strikeouts from the mound but was also given the loss dropping her to 1-3 for the season.

Morese and outfielder, Greta Holmgren (Somerdale, N.J.), were both named to the All-Tournament team. Holmgren went 3-18 with one RBI on the weekend, while Morese went 5-17 notching five RBI and three home runs.

Villanova is now traveling to Clearwater, Fla. to finish up their spring break at the Adidas Invitational. The Wildcats will take a few days off before returning to the field Thursday at 4:00 p.m. against Northern Illinois (3-3).
