May 4, 2006

Richmond, Va. - Sophomore Chris MacDonald (Westfield, N.J.), senior Matt Starker (Summit, N.J.), and senior Joe Canuso (Moorestown, N.J.) each received a spot on the second team All-CAA. Freshmen Matthew Fritts (Dallas, Tex.) and Tim Langan, Jr. (Madison, N.J.) received All-Rookie accolades.

MacDonald finished the year as the team's second leading point scorer, with 15 goals and 13 assists for 28 points. His 13 assists led the team, and he scored one man-up goal and one game-winner. The attackman also collected 25 groundballs. MacDonald started all 15 games and was a consistent offensive contributor for the Wildcats throughout the season.

Starker, also a CAA All-Tournament selection, led the team with 27 goals and seven assists for 34 points. He had a hat trick in the `Cats' 14-7 loss to no. 2 Hofstra in the CAA Semifinals last night. The midfielder scored four man-up goals and one game-winner as well as one of the three man-down goals scored in the league. Starker earned second team All-CAA for the second straight year.

Canuso is one of the Wildcats' most decorated players. He earned CAA Co-Rookie of the Year and second team All-CAA in 2003, CAA Co-Player of the Year and first team All-CAA in 2004 and second team All-CAA last season. A starter in all 15 games, he ended 2006 with a save percentage of .560 and a goals-against average of 9.29. He spent the entire season ranked in the top 20 nationally in both categories and began the year on the Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List. His 177 saves this season propelled him into the top spot all-time at Villanova in career saves with 672.

Fritts moved into a starting spot immediately this year. He started 12 of 15 games played and was Villanova's second-leading freshman scorer with six goals and two assists for eight points. One of those six goals was a game-winner.

Langan, Jr. was the team's fourth-leading scorer with 11 goals and four assists for 15 points. He earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors on March 21 after totaling four goals and one assist in two games against then-no. 11 Notre Dame and Robert Morris.

Villanova earned its fourth straight CAA Tournament bid this season before falling 14-7 to no. 2 Hofstra in the CAA Semifinals last night. The Wildcats finished their season 5-10 overall and 3-3 in the CAA.
