Villanova, Pa. - Villanova's Liad Suez Karni recently signed with Poland's Wilsa Krakow basketball team, a member of the Euroleague and the reigning Polish League champion.
After wrapping up her collegiate career and graduating from Villanova in May, Suez Karni participated in the WNBA's pre-draft camp and returned to Israel where she is currently practicing with the Israeli National Team.
"[Wilsa Krakow] is a Euroleague team," said Suez Karni. "That's the best level there is to play in in Europe. The team has high expectations for itself and I'm going to learn and contribute as much as I can. I'll have to prove myself over there. It'll be a challenge, but one I'm more than willing to take on."
Suez Karni's senior year was her most productive of her career. An All-BIG EAST selection, she led Harry Perretta's Wildcats with 14.9 points per game, shot 41.4 per cent from behind the three point line and pulled down 5.2 rebounds per game. Suez Karni recorded Villanova women's basketball's first ever triple double with 14 points, ten rebounds and ten assists against Notre Dame and became the program's 18th player to record 1,000 career points with 26 points against Syracuse on January 10.
Wilsa Krakow also signed former Hapoel Tel Aviv star Dominique Canty, who played her collegiate basketball at Alabama. Canty ended her career as a two-time All-American and four-time All-SEC selection. She averaged 18.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 3.6 assists in four years. Canty graduated as the school's all-time leading scorer--male or female.
