Ambler, Pa. - The Villanova Wildcats played host to the Towson Tigers on Tuesday and split a doubleheader with them. Towson took game one, 3-2 and Villanova rallied to take the second game by an identical score.
In game one, Villanova (13-9) was not able to get their offense on track until the late innings when they scored both of their runs.
Towson (11-13) got the first three runs of the game off of a two-out RBI single in the second inning and a two-run homer in the fourth inning.
But the Wildcats did not go down quietly, getting an RBI single from Sheri Donley in the sixth inning.
In the seventh inning, Jessica Curtis closed out her 3-3 day at the plate with an RBI single up the middle to cut the lead to one for Towson. But the rally would end there with the tying run stranded at third base.
With her three hits, Curtis extended her active hitting streak to nine games. During the streak, she his hitting .429 with four runs scored.
Laura Determan (9-4) suffered the loss for Villanova, but she deserved a better fate. She pitched all seven innings, her ninth complete game of the season, and allowed seven hits, three earned runs and struck out 11.
Sheri Donley also extender her active hit streak to four games, during which she is hitting .538 with five runs scored, three RBI and two doubles.
The game was played in Ambler, Pennsylvania at the home field for Temple University due to construction at Villanova's home field.
