ATLANTA, Ga. - Villanova senior forward Curtis Sumpter (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin H.S.) was selected to the All-Senior All-America first team by Lowe's in voting announced at this weekend's NCAA Final Four here. Wisconsin's Alando Tucker was named winner of the Lowe's Senior Class Award in an annoucnement made on CBS by Dick Enberg.
The Lowe's Senior CLASS award has grown into the nation's premier tribute to college seniors. The award identifies personal qualities that the define a complete student-athlete, with criteria including excellence in the class room and community, as well as the candidate's performance on the court. The winner and All-Americans are selected by a nationwide vote of coaches, media and fans.
The 6-7 Sumpter averaged 17.4 points, 7.2 rebounds en route to being named first team All-BIG EAST. He helped lead the Wildcats (22-11) to the NCAA Tournament for the third consecutive season.
Sumpter and Tucker were joined on the first team by Acie Law IV of Texas A&M; Adam Haluska of Iowa and Nick Fazekas of Nevada.
