VILLANOVA, Pa. -- Scottie Reynolds scored a season-high 23 points and had six assists and Villanova (No. 16 ESPN/USA Today, No. 17 AP) stayed unbeaten with a 93-57 victory over Houston Baptist on Thursday night.
Corey Stokes scored a career-high 22 points and Dante Cunningham had 13 for Villanova.
Baron Sauls made all six 3-pointers and had 22 points for the Huskies, and Andrew Puzyk scored 17 points.
Reynolds was shooting only 34 percent from the field entering the game. but made 4-of-7 from long distance tonight and moved into the top-10 in school history for career three-pointers made. He now has 158 career three-pointers.
Stokes, Clark and Reggie Redding hit three straight 3-pointers for Villanova during a 15-0 run that built the lead to 26-8 midway through the opening period.
Puzyk came down and buried three straight 3s in front of the Villanova bench that made it 32-18. The Wildcats later scored 12 unanswered points and led by as many as 28 points in the first half.
Puzyk's 12 points at halftime gave him more than anyone else on the Wildcats, but their five starters each had eight points and led 48-22. Villanova next plays on Tuesday evening when it takes on Texas in the Jimmy V Classic from Madison Square Garden in New York. Tip-off is scheduled for 9 p.m. and the game will be televised live on ESPN.
The Huskies are in their first season at the Division I level during a transition from an NAIA team back to the NCAA. They went 13-15 last season and had a 32-game home winning streak end this year.
The Huskies, who joined the Great West Conference in July, also competed at the NCAA Division I level from 1973-89.
