Philadelphia - Villanova's Mike Seamon (Rahway, N.J.) and Chris Christian (West Orange, N.J.) were named to the Philadelphia Soccer Six first team in balloting announced on Dec. 1. Meanwhile, Wildcat rookie Kyle Soroka (Langhorne, Pa.) shared Freshman of the Year honors with Jeff Pio of La Salle.
La Salle junior forward Ryan Richter (Southampton, Pa./William Tennent) has been named the 2009 Philadelphia Soccer Six Player of the Year. The league announced Richter's achievement along with naming Temple and Drexel its 2009 Co-Champions at its annual awards banquet held at the Sheraton University City. Dave MacWilliams, who led Temple to the PS6 Co-Championship and a 9-7-2 overall mark, was named Coach of the Year. La Salle's Jeff Pio (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) and Villanova's Kyle Soroka (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) shared Co-Rookie of the Year honors, while Penn's Aaron Ross (Woodclif Lake, N.J./Dwight Englewood) took home the John McAdams Academic Player of the Year Award.
Richter won the league's top honor, the Chris Jones Player of the Year Award, after a season that saw him score seven goals and distribute seven assists to lead the Soccer Six with 21 points. He was named Player of the Week on Nov. 9 and also earned a place on the Soccer Six All-Star Team. Richter also performed well in the classroom this year, earning CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Second Team Academic All-District honors this season.
Richter's teammate Jeff Pio shared William "Bill" Wilkinson Freshman of the Year honors with Kyle Soroka. Pio was the third leading scorer for the Explorers this season with three goals and three assists from midfield as a rookie. Soroka turned in an excellent freshman season for the Wildcats, sharing the team lead in goals with five and distributing two assists while helping Villanova earn a berth in the Big East Tournament.
Aaron Ross earned the John McAdams Academic Player of the Year Award as a senior this year. He is completing a degree in history and has a 3.95 cumulative grade-point average. Ross started in 13 matches at midfield for the Quakers this season and distributed two assists.
Dave MacWilliams earns Bill Harris Coach of the Year honors for the third time this season. His Temple Owls posted the best record of any team in the Soccer Six and went 2-0-0 in league matches. MacWilliams squad placed three of its members on the Soccer Six All-Star team led by senior J.T. Noone, who was also the top assist man in the league. Temple players took home Player of the Week honors five times during the season while helping the Owls finish with a 9-7-2 overall record.
The Soccer Six also announced its All-Star team and statistical award champions for 2009 at the annual banquet.
