PALM HARBOR, Fla. - Without soggy conditions and heavy rains at the BIG EAST Golf Championships at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Course teams were able go low on day two. The Cincinnati, Georgetown and Seton Hall men finished their first rounds early Monday morning after darkness cut their first 18 holes short. The Hoya men carded a 286 in round two to move into first.
Georgetown's 286 is the lowest men's team round of the tournament thus far. The Hoyas (12-over 580) now lead St. John's, which had a second round 296, by five strokes entering the final day of play. Seton Hall and Louisville are tied for third overall with team scores of 587. The Pirates carded a 292 while the Cardinals recorded a 296.
For Villanova, the team moved up several positions to finish out the second day in 6th place overall, with sophomore Brian Colbert (Cary, Ill.) leading the Wildcats tied for 9th place after a posting a second round score of 69. Junior Conor Casey (Madison, N.J.), junior Brendan Kelly (Annapolis, Md.), freshman Steve Skurla (Wheaton, Ill.) and junior Colin List (Boynton Beach, Fla.) round out the Villanova top five, currently tied for 16th, 27th, 27th and 60th place overall after the second day of competition.
Individually for men, DePaul's Michael Furci remains in the lead after he shot a second round 71. His 2-under 170 is one stroke better than Georgetown's Vincenzo Salina who carded a 69 on day two for a 1-under 171. Notre Dame's Max Scodro stands in third place with an even-par 170.
