JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. - Villanova junior Michael Kania (Haverford, Pa.) is in a tie for fifth place at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate being played at the par-72, 7,147-yard Blackthorn Club in Jonesborough, Tennessee. Kania shot a par, 72 in the first round of the 54-hole event. Kania is coming off of a 6th place finish at the Big 5 Invitational last weekend. The leader is four shots ahead of Kania.

As a team, Villanova is tied for 11th in the 15-team field after shooting a 310 (+22). They sit just seven shots out of seventh place. North Carolina State leads the team competition with a 287 (-1).

Senior Brian Colbert (Cary, Ill.) and junior Steve Skurla (Wheaton, Ill.) both shot a 78 (+6) and are tied for 50th after 18 holes.

Junior Derek Jones (Lower Burrell, Pa.) shot an 82 (+10) and is tied for 74th while senior Bret McGaughey (Laguna Beach, Calif.) shot an 83 (+11) to put himself in a tie for 78th.

Villanova will tee off again tomorrow morning for the second of three rounds in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate.
