April 28, 2011

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Junior Brian Colbert (Cary, Ill.) capped off a fantastic season by being named to the All-BIG EAST Men's Golf Team as announced by the conference on Thursday afternoon. It is the first postseason recognition for Colbert in his Villanova career.

The junior averaged a team-best 73.00 strokes per round throughout the fall and spring seasons. Colbert recorded five top-ten finishes and two top-twenty finishes over the 2010-11 season.

He was named the BIG EAST Golfer of the Week for March 9th after finishing alone in 8th place at the USF Invitational with a 211 (-5). Colbert's highest finish of the season was in 4th place, which he accomplished twice. First was at the Lincoln Mercury Intercollegiate (October 16-17) where he shot a 217 (+1) and second was at the Wildcat Invitational (April 3-4) where he fired a 215 (+2). Colbert lead the BIG EAST for much of the season in scoring average, and he wrapped up the season with a solid 20th place finish at the BIG EAST Championships.

In the other conference awards, Notre Dam's Max Scodro was Player of the Year, while Notre Dame's Niall Platt was named Freshman of the Year.

The other members of the All-BIG EAST Team were Cincinnati's Joe Kastelic, Georgetown's Curtis Loop, Louisville's Karsten Clements and Justin Dorward, Marquette's Kelly Kretz, Notre Dame's Max Scodro, Chris Walker, and Niall Platt, St. John's Peter Ballo, Seton Hall's Brandon Park, and USF's Robby Carl.
