Aug. 2, 2011

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The season opener for the Villanova women's soccer team is a mere 17 days away and on Tuesday afternoon the 2011 squad reported back to campus for the beginning of preseason training. Following a day of information sessions, meetings and the team's annual photo day the Wildcats will officially begin training following fitness testing on Wednesday morning.

On the schedule to begin the day on Wednesday is fitness and agility testing on the turf in Villanova Stadium, while the team will hold an intra-squad scrimmage later in the day. The scrimmage on the team's practice field will be an 11-v-11 matchup that will give the coaching staff its first glimpses of the team in action.

Villanova returns 15 players from last season and has also added 10 newcomers to the fold, including nine freshmen and a junior transfer. The first game action for the team comes on August 13 in a preseason exhibition game at Hofstra, while the season opener is a home game versus James Madison on August 19.
