Villanova played against a member of the Southeastern Conference for only the second time ever and improved to 2-0 in these meetings. The first time the Wildcats played an SEC team they came away with a 1-0 victory in double overtime against Louisiana State on September 10, 2006. That game was played at a neutral site at Navy.
The last time Villanova won consecutive road games came on September 4/6, 2009 when the team knocked off Davidson and Charlotte during a weekend trip. Since then the Wildcats had been 4-14-1 away from home prior to this weekend's Georgia trip. That record included a 2-13-1 mark in true road games and a 2-1 mark in neutral-site contests.
Senior forward Katie Ryan (Wayne, N.J.) has scored a goal in five consecutive games dating back to the final game of the 2010 season. This is the longest streak of her career, surpassing four-game goal streaks that she had as a freshman in 2008 and again as a sophomore in 2009 (Ryan also scored in the first four games of the 2009 season). Dating back to at least 2001, no other Villanova player has scored a goal in five consecutive games.
Ryan now has 82 career points (32 goals, 18 assists) for Villanova. With her goal in today's game she passed Tina Conti (1988-91) to move into fifth place in school history for career points. Ryan trails Jean Hajjar (1985-88) and Laura Johnson (2001-04), who are tied for third place with 88 points.
Ryan scored the 13th game-winning goal of her career today and moved into a tie for third place in school history with Laura Johnson. One more game-winning goal would enable Ryan to tie the school record of 14 which is currently held by Cathy Ford (1983-85) and Ann Brennan (1983-86).
