VILLANOVA, Pa.--The fourth consecutive day of hard training for the women's soccer team wrapped up with the team's second 11-v-11 scrimmage late Saturday afternoon on the West Campus practice field. The scrimmage, which featured a combined five goals scored, concluded the first week of preseason training ahead of a well-deserved day off tomorrow.
At halftime of the scrimmage the Blue Team held a 3-0 lead over the Yellow Team thanks to three goals that were evenly spaced out during the opening period. The teams were mixed up during the intermission and both teams netted one goal in the second half.
Senior forward Katie Ryan (Wayne, N.J.) scored a goal in each half of the scrimmage, including a tally midway through the first half which put the Blue Team ahead by a 2-0 margin. The other two goals in the half for the Blue Team came from freshman midfielder Victoria Gersh (Silver Spring, Md.). She scored the first goal of the scrimmage 15 minutes in after freshman Bryana Gold (Atlanta, Ga.) and sophomore Stephanie Myers (Downingtown, Pa.) strung together two passes that led to the goal.
Gersh added a second score in the closing minutes of the first half and senior forward Erin Ryan (Doylestown, Pa.) scored in the second half to account for the final goal of the day.
Earlier in the day on Saturday the team had a very focused morning practice to begin the third straight day of two training sessions. Following the day off on Sunday the Wildcats are headed out on a four-day trip to New Jersey to continue training and teambuilding.
