FIGGC Final Results
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Senior Brian Colbert (Cary, Ill.) and junior Michael Kania (Haverford, Pa.) each finished with strong third rounds at the Football Gridiron Classic in South Bend, Ind. today to put themselves inside the top-20 individually. The Gridiron Classic was hosted at the par-70, 7,023-yard Warren Course. The team came on strong in the third round after struggling in the first round to place 9th out of 12 teams with a 305-291-293--889 (+49) for the 54-hole event. The team's 293 was the third best score of the final round.
Colbert came in a tie for 15th after shooting a 74-73-72--219 (+9) while Kania shrugged off an early 79 with a 68-73 for a three round total of 220 (+10) which put him in a tie for 19th.
Junior Steve Skurla (Wheaton, Ill.) finished in a tie for 28th after a 75-74-74--223 (+13). Colbert, Kania, and Skurla have led the team well early on as all three of them have finished inside the top-30 in all three September tournaments.
Junior Derek Jones (Lower Burrell, Pa.)(78-76-74--228;+18) had a strong final round to finish in a tie for 48th while sophomore Robby Meador (Miami Lakes, Fla.) fired a 78-76-78--232 (+22) to finish in a tie for 61st.
Villanova finished just nine strokes behind fifth place Notre Dame as they remained in strong position throughout the event.
Houston and St. Mary's (CA) split the team crown and Texas-Arlington's Paul McConnell took home the individual title.
Villanova will have the next ten days off before getting back into action locally at the Big 5 Invitational in Plymouth Meeting, Pa.
