LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Despite a tough defensive effort and seven saves from junior goalkeeper Jami Kranich (Hamden, Conn.), the Wildcats (5-7-2, 3-3-0) suffered a 1-0 defeat at Louisville (8-3-2, 3-2-2) on Friday night at Cardinal Park. With the loss, Villanova falls to 4-4 all-time against the Cardinals while Louisville claimed their second straight win over the Wildcats in as many years.

After 19 shots on goal including an 11 to 3 advantage in the second half, Louisville's Charlyn Corral netted the game-winning tally in the 73rd minute from 22 yards out to beat Kranich to the inside right side of the net. Corral had a game-high seven shots including four takes on goal for the evening.

Just 13 seconds after the Louisville goal, the Wildcats saw their best opportunity of the contest when senior Taylor Houck (Chalfont, Pa.) took a fire on net that hit the crossbar. The closing minutes saw chances from senior Heidi Sabatura (Lawrenceville, N.J.) and freshman Rhea Barghash (Bridgewater, N.J.), but both opportunities were blocked and saved by the Louisville defense.

Sophomore Victoria Gersh (Silver Spring, Md.) took a team-high two shots on goal while Sabatura, Houck, Barghash and freshman Renee Hart (Bethesda, Md.) all saw opportunities on net. Louisville claimed a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks on the evening while Cardinal netminder Chloe Kiefer collected four saves in the contest.

The Wildcats will try to rebound on Sunday when they face Cincinnati on Sunday, October 7th. Game time versus the Bearcats is slated for 1 p.m.
