ORLANDO, Fla. - Villanova went into the third round of the BIG EAST Match Play event at the 7,155-yard, par-72 Watson Course in Orlando looking to leave on a high note before their three week break. Victories by freshman Robbie Meador and sophomore Vince Boyle gave the Wildcats a chance, but the Rams of VCU won the other four matches for a 4 to 2 team victory. For the Wildcats, they went 1-2 over the weekend, but lost two close matches to Notre Dame and VCU.

Meador defeated his opponent easily 5&4, while Boyle had a solid defeat of 3&2. After winning his first two matches of the event, senior Bret McGaughey fell 4&3. Junior Michael Kania (2 DN), senior Brian Colbert (3&2), and junior Derek Jones (3&2) dropped their final matches of the event.

McGaughey and Boyle were the top point earners of the weekend with 2 points a piece. Kania followed that with 1.5 points, with Colbert and Meador also earning a point each.

Villanova's second round opponent, Notre Dame, won the event over USC Upstate.

The Wildcats will use this positive experience as a warm up for the rest of their spring schedule, as well as the BIG EAST Championships which will be held at the same course.

Villanova will be in action again in three weeks at the USF Invitational in Dade City, Florida.
