LONDON - In men's basketball action on Sunday night in London the host Great Britain team opened up against Russia in Group B round-robin play and was defeated by a final score of 95-75. Former Villanova men's basketball player Andrew Sullivan was in the starting lineup for Great Britain in the first of five games preliminary round games.
Sullivan saw 14 minutes of action against Russia and finished his day with two points and one rebound on 1-of-3 shooting from the floor.
Russia pulled out to a 24-19 lead after the first period and stretched the margin to 15 points, 49-34, at halftime before going on to the comfortable margin of victory in the second half. Great Britain was limited to 33 percent shooting (25-of-76) overall and hit on just 4-of-26 three-pointers while Russia shot 63 percent (37-of-59) from the field.
Next up for Great Britain is a contest against Brazil on Tuesday, with tip-off scheduled for 11:45 a.m. Eastern time.
Next up for Villanova is a Monday morning women's basketball game between Croatia and China, with Lisa Karcic taking the court for Croatia in its second preliminary round game.
