LONDON - The host Great Britain men's basketball team carried a 10-point lead into halftime against Australia but were overpowered in the second half en route to a 106-75 loss, their fourth loss in Group B play.
Andrew Sullivan saw 25 minutes on the floor for Great Britain as his minutes increased for the third straight contest since he played 14 minutes in the host nation's Olympics opener against Russia.
Sullivan contributed eight points, two rebounds and two assists against Australia while finishing his day 4-of-7 from the field. He scored the opening points of the game on a jumper 23 seconds after the opening tip and wound up with four points in each half.
Great Britain led 25-18 after the first quarter and stretched the advantage to 46-36 by halftime. In the second however, Australia's hot shooting from the field took over and led to 70 points over the final two periods. Great Britain trailed 66-60 after the end of the third quarter and was outscored 40-15 in the fourth period.
The final game of Group B play for Great Britain is on Monday at 11:45 a.m. Eastern time against China.
On Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. Eastern time the Croatian women's basketball team plays Turkey in its final game of Group A preliminary action.
