Caitlin Forte (Selbyville, Del.) notched the Wildcat scores as Villanova improved to 2-0-0 all-time against the Blue Jays.
With the win, Villanova improves to 5-8-2 overall and 3-3-0 in the BIG EAST while Creighton falls to 9-5-1 and 1-4-2 in league. Tonight's victory also garnered the Wildcats another three points in the conference standings to put them at nine points for the season. Villanova has just three games remaining in the BIG EAST regular season before postseason play begins with the start of the quarterfinal round of the BIG EAST Tournament on Nov. 4th at campus sites.
Forte had a hand in each score tonight by providing an assist to Wilson's goal in the 34th minute and tallying an insurance score in the 84th minute from 20 yards out. After splitting the defense in the center of the pitch, Forte served a ball to Wilson who finished to the right side of the net from eight yards out to give Villanova a 1-0 lead at the 33:09 mark.
Following intermission, Villanova continued to dominate the possession battle and outshot their opponents by a 7-6 margin for the stanza. The Wildcats secured the contest in the 84th minute when Forte beat Creighton goalkeeper Danielle Rice from 20 yards out to give Villanova a 2-0 lead. The scores would be enough to insure the victory as the Wildcats notched the win and secured an important victory in the BIG EAST.
Forte led the Wildcats with five shots on the evening and placed two on goal while Wilson added another two shots on net for the contest. Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper Emma Meyer (Massapequa, N.Y.) tallied four saves in the victory.
Villanova will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 19th when they host the Seton Hall Pirates at Higgins Soccer Complex. The contest will mark the last regular season home game of the year for the Wildcats and will also serve as Alumni Day. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
