CHESTER, Pa. - On the first day of competition at the Danny Curran Invitational there were six Villanova athletes in competition in four different events. The majority of events in the local meet take place at Leslie C. Quick, Jr. Stadium throughout the day on Saturday.
Junior Robert Hurlbut (Rochester, N.Y.) and freshman Brent Johnson each ran in the 5000 meters on Friday afternoon and placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in a field of 65 runners. Hurlbut crossed the finish line in fourth place with a time of 15:00.95, while Johnson was fifth and recorded a time of 15:03.10.
In the pole vault senior Chris Dougherty (Cherry Hill, N.J.) and freshman PJ Succi (Warminster, Pa.) were both in action. Dougherty was the runner-up out of 23 competitors by clearing a height of 4.50 meters and Succi tied for sixth place and had a mark of 4.05 meters.
Freshman Denis Ostick (Havertown, Pa.) finished fifth in the triple jump (12.26 meters) and freshman Dan Sullivan (North Hampton, N.H.) registered a 19th place finish in the discus (35.93 meters).
