CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Senior Samuel Ellison (Dresher, Pa.) paced a field of 23 runners and won the Ronald Thorne Men's 800 Meter Run at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational on Saturday afternoon, where Villanova competed in a total of four events. Ellison crossed the finish line with a winning time of 1:49.26 at Cobb Stadium.
Junior Bryan Murphy (Teaneck, N.J.) was the other Wildcats athlete to compete in a running event and he finished 10th in the 400 meters with a time of 49.05.
In the field events junior Elbert Maxwell (Pittsburgh, Pa.) continued a strong outdoor season by finishing second in the high jump and third in the long jump. Maxwell set a new personal best with a distance of 7.51 meters in the long jump, surpassing his previous top mark of 7.46 meters which he originally set this year at the BIG EAST Championships indoors and then matched last week at the Colonial Relays. Maxwell also recorded a height of 2.09 meters in the high jump for the second straight week.
