WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Villanova had two entries in the distance medley relay on Saturday afternoon at the Colonial Relays and they combined for a one-two finish at Zable Stadium as the Wildcats wrapped up competition at the two-day meet. The two squads in the DMR finished with less than 2.5 seconds separating them and Villanova also registered a second place finish in the sprint medley relay.
Freshman Patrick Tiernan (Toowoomba, Australia) anchored the winning DMR team in his first race of the spring season. Junior Rob Denault (Aurora, Ont.) led off the relay with the 1200 meters leg and was followed by freshman Kyle Cartwright (Oyster Bay, N.Y.) in the 400 meters and junior Chris O'Sullivan (Havertown, Pa.) in the 800 meters ahead of Tiernan. Their winning time was 9:50.37.
The second place team was anchored by junior Dusty Solis (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and finished with a time of 9:52.72. Redshirt freshman Harry Warnick (Fairfield, Conn.) led off the relay and was followed by junior Cory Serfoss (Easton, Pa.) and sophomore Jordy Williamsz (Melbourne, Australia).
In the sprint medley relay the group of freshman Vince Thompson (Pipersville, Pa.), junior Bryan Murphy (Teaneck, N.J.), senior Samuel Ellison (Dresher, Pa.) and redshirt freshman Josh Lampron (Mansfield, Mass.) finished in second place and posted a time of 3:25.14.
Villanova also had a number of athletes competing in the field events on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Sean Locke (Horsham, Pa.) made his collegiate debut in the javelin and threw for a personal best distance of 52.58 meters. He came in third out of 25 competitors in the event and was followed in fourth place by junior Connor Milanaik (Mendham, N.J.), while sophomore Robert Cacace (Yonkers, N.Y.) tied for 13th place. Milanaik recorded a throw of 51.16 meters and Cacace produced a mark of 43.86 meters.
Senior Chris Dougherty (Cherry Hill, N.J.) registered a fifth place finish in the Championship section of the pole vault (4.65 meters), while freshmen Kolby Koeck (Altoona, Pa.) and PJ Succi (Warminster, Pa.) each tied for third place in the University section with heights of 4.20 meters.
Freshman Denis Ostick (Havertown, Pa.) placed eighth in the triple jump (12.41m) and freshman Dan Sullivan (North Hampton, N.H.) was 14th in the discus (36.14m).
