NEWARK, Del. - Sophomore thrower James Rowen (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) finished first in the shot put and third in the hammer in the Delaware Classic at Grant Stadium, where Villanova had athletes competing in four events on Saturday afternoon. A total of eight athletes were in action for the Wildcats in the nearby meet.
Rowen produced a mark of 12.14 meters to come in first out of five entries in the shot put. Freshman Dan Sullivan (North Hampton, N.H.) finished second to Rowen and registered a distance of 11.79 meters. Sullivan was also the top Villanova finisher in the discus with a throw of 36.49 meters. That mark was good for fifth place out of 11 competitors.
Junior Ryan Milanaik (Mendham, N.J.) came in sixth in the discus (35.11m) and was followed by senior Drew King (New Haven, Conn.) and freshman John McDonald (New Providence, N.J.) in seventh (34.84m) and eighth (33.92m) places, respectively.
King led a trio of Wildcats with a runner-up finish in the hammer. He threw for a distance of 47.59 meters and was followed in third place by Rowen (41.53m) and fourth place by McDonald (39.17m).
In the javelin junior Chris Glennie (Fallsington, Pa.) came in third out of 15 athletes with a throw of 49.76 meters. Freshman Sean Locke (Horsham, Pa.) was fourth overall (48.97m), junior Connor Milanaik (Mendham, N.J.) came in seventh (45.50m) and Ryan Milanaik was eighth (45.03m).
