The game is being televised by the American Sports Network and will air live in the Philadelphia area on the Comcast Network. Radio coverage of the game can also be heard on 610 SPORTS (WTEL-AM), online at Villanova.com with a Nova-Nation All-Access subscription, or via the TuneIn app.
Saturday night's contest will be the second straight road game for the Wildcats, who are coming off a 37-0 win at Albany last week. Villanova has had success on the road against the Tigers before as well, including a 45-35 win in its most recent trip to Towson two years ago. Senior safety Cameron McCurry (Orange Park, Fla.), this week's CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week, was one of the stars of the Wildcats win at Johnny Unitas Stadium in 2013.
McCurry had an interception, a fumble recovery and a blocked kick on a point-after attempt in the last Villanova trip to Towson. He was similarly in top form against the Great Danes last week, when he made two interceptions and forced a fumble in the shutout victory.
For the first time this season, Villanova had a pair of players earn weekly CAA honors. In addition to McCurry's defensive award, redshirt freshman quarterback Zach Bednarczyk (Wallington, N.J.) was named the league's Rookie of the Week. Bednarczyk earned his first win as a starter against Albany and had a perfect game passing in the process. He went 12-of-12 through the air for 152 yards and two touchdowns, while the Wildcats also ran for a season-high 269 yards in the win.
Junior running back Javon White (Telford, Pa.) ran for 124 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries last week to notch his second career 100-yard game. Sophomore running back Matt Gudzak (Toms River, N.J.) and freshman Aaron Forbes (Newburgh, N.Y.) also ran for touchdowns in the game. Villanova pulled away from a 10-0 lead at halftime with two touchdowns apiece in the third and fourth quarters.
Perhaps most noteworthy from the game against the Great Danes was Villanova reaching the 30-point plateau for the first time this season. Since the start of the 2011 season, the Wildcats are 24-3 (.889) when they score at least 30 points. That record included a 10-1 mark last season and Villanova will try to keep its offense in top form against the Tigers.Towson is coming off its first road win of the season, a 21-14 victory at Stony Brook. Both teams had fewer than 250 yards of total offense in the game, but Tigers running back Darius Victor found the end zone twice for a pair of rushing touchdowns and Towson overcome a 14-0 first quarter deficit with touchdowns in the second, third and fourth periods.
Victor and Tigers quarterback Connor Frazier are the team's top two rushers on the season, with Victor averaging 95.5 yards per game on the ground to go along with nine touchdowns. Frazier has run for 278 yards and two scores and averages 175.2 passing yards per contest. He is 92-of-161 (57.1%) passing on the season, with six touchdowns and four interceptions.
Villanova leads the all-time series with Towson by a 7-4 margin and is 3-2 all-time at Johnny Unitas Stadium. Following this week's contest, the Wildcats return home for a Halloween night battle against Maine.
