VILLANOVA, Pa. - George Raveling, who played three varsity basketball seasons at Villanova for coach Al Severance from 1957-60, was elected last weekend to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Raveling has served the sport in a variety of roles since his graduation from Villanova. In the 1960s he began his coaching career as an assistant to Jack Kraft and was instrumental in the recruitment of such standouts as Johnny Jones and Howard Porter to Villanova. He moved on to the University of Maryland before spending 11 seasons as the head coach at Washington State University (1972-83).

Raveling also enjoyed successful stints as head coach at the University of Iowa (1983-86) and the University of Southern California.

After retiring from coaching in 1994, Raveling moved into an executive position with Nike. Today he serves as its Director of Global Basketball Marketing.

Raveling was also honored at the 2014 Villanova Basketball Banquet. The former forward still ranks 11th all-time at Villanova with 835 career rebounds.

In 2013 Raveling received the John W. Bunn Award from the Naismith Hall of Fame and was also inducted into the National College Basketball Hall of Fame that season in a group that also included another legendary Villanovan, coach Rollie Massimino.
