Wildcats Grab No. 1 East Seed; Draw Lafayette in Pittsburgh

VILLANOVA, Pa. - A day after winning the BIG EAST Tournament at Madison Square Garden for the first time since 1995, the Villanova men's basketball team drew the No. 1 Seed in the East Bracket on Selection Sunday and will face the Lafayette Leopards in Pittsburgh at the CONSOL Energy Center on Thursday, March 19.

The Wildcats are 7-1 all-time against the Leopards with the team's only loss coming in 1922 as a forfeit. The two Pennsylvania teams last met on Nov. 8, 2013 with Villanova grabbing a 75-59 victory at The Pavilion.

Villanova came into Selection Sunday after defeating Xavier for the BIG EAST title, only the second one in program history. The Wildcats bring a 33-2 overall record and a 15 game-winning streak into the NCAA Tournament.

In addition to No. 1 Villanova and No. 16 Lafayette, the East Bracket features No. 2 Virginia, No. 3 Oklahoma, No. 4 Louisville, No. 5 Northern Iowa, No. 6 Providence, No. 7 Michigan State, No. 8 NC State, No. 9 LSU, No. 10 Georgia, No. 11 Boise/Dayton, No. 12 Wyoming, No. 13 UC Irvine, No. 14 Albany and No. 15 Belmont.

Villanova was last selected as a No. 1 seed during the 2005-06 NCAA Tournament when the Wildcats reached the Elite Eight.
