AMHERST, Va. - The Villanova men's golf team concluded play at the inaugural, 54-hole Liberty Spring Invitational this afternoon. The 18-team event was played at Poplar Grove Golf Course in Amherst, Va. The Wildcats shot 312 and 313 as a team in rounds one and two before shooting 324 on Saturday for a 949 (+85) total.

Sophomore Lucas Trim once against led VU as he shot 77 in round three. The sophomore recorded two rounds of 76 on Friday. He finished tied for 53rd individually with a 229 total.

Freshman Andy Butler finished with a 234 three-round total, the second best for Villanova. Butler shot 78-74 yesterday before shooting 82 today. He finished tied for 68th individually.

Junior Luke Waggoner finished third on the Wildcats, going 76-80-82 for a two-day total of 238.

Freshman Will Byrne carded rounds of 82-83-83 to round out the top-four Villanova scorers.

Fellow freshman Zach Egermayer tallied rounds of 82-84-85 at the tournament for a total score of 251.

Oklahoma was the inaugural winner of the tournament with a collective score of 847 (-17). North Carolina came in second at 862 (-2). Liberty (+12, 876) and Lipscomb (+14, 878) finished third and fourth. Campbell and Radford tied for fifth with a final score of 884 (+20).

Columbia (+21, 885), Northern Illinois (+25, 889), Loyola Maryland (+29, 893) and Wright State (+36, 900) rounded out the top ten.

Drexel, (+42, 906), Delaware (+45, 909), Alabama State (+48, 912), High Point (+57, 921), Longwood (+72, 936), George Mason (+76, 940), Villanova (+85, 949) and La Salle (+93, 957) rounded out the 18-team field.

In terms of the individual medalist, there was a six-way tie for first place following 54 holes between Liberty's Mathieu Fenasse and Isaiah Logue, Oklahoma's Beau Titsworth, Grant Hirschman and Charlie Saxon and North Carolina's William Register.

All six players pared the par-4, No. 1 hole (384 yards) but Liberty's Mathieu Fenasse was the lone player in the group of six to birdie the par-4, No. 2 hole (429 yards), claiming individual medalist honors.

Villanova now prepares for the Finegan Invitational in Elverson, Pa. on April 19-20 before heading to South Carolina for the BIG EAST Championships at the end of the month to close out the schedule.
