Talley Speaks at Weekly Media Press Conference

Sept. 16, 2015

VILLANOVA, Pa.- Villanova head football coach Andy Talley spoke to the media at his weekly press conference Wednesday.

Talley spoke about last weekend's win at Fordham, the offense's play early on, and this weekend's home opener against Delaware.

Below are excerpts from his press conference.

Talley on the Fordham game:

"We had a very tough game up at Fordham. They are a really good team, and will probably run the table. We moved the ball up and down the field, but we could not score inside of the 20. They did a great job with their red zone defense. It was just one of those games where we had 400 yards of total offense, and you look at the sheet and you only see 14 points. Our defense really distinguished themselves in this game so we were very pleased."

Talley on Fordham game part two:

"We had two guys down. Jake Prus our offensive tackle donated bone marrow last week so he was not able to play. We started a young guy by the name of Ethan Greenidge who is a true freshman. He played really well, and that was good to see. Gary [Underwood] will be back this week. Javon White, who is a local guy, did a great job for us. He had 140 yards rushing. We're really excited about his play. He'll be someone we can rely on to carry the ball along with Gary."

Talley on John Robertson and the team's progress thus far:

"I think John Robertson played well in the game. I don't think he's at where he wants to be. He distinguished himself on the ground. It was one of those games where the stats did not equate to the points on the board. We're averaging 14 points a game, and I think we are a lot better than that. Hopefully we'll have a chance to improve on that this week."

Talley on the Delaware rivalry:

"The Delaware game is unusual for us right now because we normally play this game at the end of the year. It's considered a big rivalry game for us. With CAA being as difficult as it is week in and week out, we sort of lost a bit of that rival game. Every game you play in the league is murder. I know there was one period of time where we lost five in a row then we won five in a row. It's one of the games that has all those rival characteristics where you never count the other team out."

Talley on the Delaware team:

"I think Dave Brock down there has a lot of young, talented football players. Their offensive line is mature coming back from last year. There were playing two quarterbacks in their first game against Jacksonville. Last week, they were playing just one guy. [Joe] Walker seems like the guy they want to hang their hat on."

Talley on the Delaware team part two:

"They're coming off a 1-1 start. It's Delaware they have talent for sure. Their quarterback by the name of Joe Walker can run and throw. He's a pretty scary guy so we need to find a way to contain him. I'm pleased that we're home, and the game is on T.V. So from what I can see, we have our hands full with the Blue Hens like we always do. It's that kind of a rivalry and I think we'll be in for the same mixture of angst. Hopefully, we'll have most of our players back."
