Oct. 2, 2017 Final Stats
BINGHAMTON, New York- The Villanova men's golf team finished up play at the Matthews Auto Collegiate Invitational shooting a final round of 300 (+12). Over the past two day the Wildcats carded rounds of 298-300= 598 (+22) for a sixth place finish.
St. Bonaventure won the tournament for the second straight year as they carded rounds of 297-289 = 586 (+10). The Bonnies won a tiebreaker thanks to having a lower fifth score than Lehigh.
Lehigh is followed by, host Binghamton, Monmouth, University of Ottawa, Villanova, Saint Joseph's (PA), Fairleigh Dickinson, Rider, Canisius, Lafayette, Hofstra, and Siena. LIU Brooklyn, La Salle, St. Francis (NY), and Niagara round out the leaderboard.
Senior Andy Butler, and Sophomore Captain Connor Daly led the way for the Wildcats. Butlers final round score was a 73 (+1) which he carded rounds of 71-73= 144 (E). Daly finished out his final round carding a 70 (-2) and making his overall scores be 74-70=144 (E). Both ended up tied for sixth place overall.
Freshman Matt Barnes shot rounds of 74-78= 152 (+8) and placed tied for 32nd. The other freshman Reb Banas finished a few strokes behind Barnes. He finished tied for 64th place carding rounds of 79-79= 158 (+14). Senior Will Byrne finished 84th overall with scores of 82-84= 166 (+22).
The Wildcats will be back in competition Oct. 13-14 at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, hosted by East Tennessee State.
