Malvern, Pa. - The Villanova men's golf team is in second place out of 19 teams after the first day of the Wildcat Invitational at the par-71 White Manor Country Club. The Wildcats shot a round of 285 (+1) on the first day, and they trail Delaware by one stroke heading into the second round of competition on Tuesday.
The race to the top of the leaderboard is a tight one, as just five strokes separate first and fifth place. Lehigh is in third place at 286 (+2), followed by Cleveland State. Fordham and Drexel are tied for fifth place with a score of 289 (+5).
Lucas Trim and Connor Daly led the Wildcats on day one. Trim and Daly carded a round of 70 (-1), and they are both tied for sixth place. Andy Butler finished just behind them at 72 (+1), and he is tied for 12th place. Zach Egermayer shot a round of 73 (+2), and Will Byrne rounded out the team at 74 (+3).
Connor Downey, Andrew Bowyer and Andrew MacMillan are competing as individuals at the tournament. Downey, in his first collegiate appearance, fired a 76 (+5). Bowyer and MacMillan finished with scores of 77 (+6) and 81 (+10), respectively.
The final round of the Wildcat Invitational will begin at 8 a.m. Villanova is scheduled to tee off at 1 p.m. Live stats are available for the last day of action.
