The Villanova men's tennis team (8-7) was defeated by St. John's (10-14) on Friday afternoon at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. with a final score of 7-0.
Back to back victories during doubles play quickly put Villanova behind as Luis Miranda and Will Elmore fell 6-3 and Thomas Dodson and Tyler Roth fell 6-4. The freshman duo of Stefan Suarez and Mike Czlonka were tied at four before the match was called due to the St. John's win.
Captains Luis Miranda and Alastair Hurry were the only two Wildcats to push a tiebreaker in their matches. Miranda at the No. 1 spot dropped his match 6-2, 7-6 (9), while Hurry finished 6-4, 7-6 (8).
All four freshmen competed in singles matches but could not pick up a win.
The Wildcats still have a busy weekend ahead as they have three back-to-back road matches beginning with St. John's. They will face UConn and Hofstra as well throughout the weekend.
