Andy Butler Named to Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team

Junior golfer Andy Butler (Oakmont, Pa.) earned his first section to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team as announced on Monday morning. Butler was voted onto the team by the sports information directors of the Philadelphia area colleges and universities for the combination of his academic and athletic achievements.

This is the seventh time in the last eight seasons that Villanova has had at least one golfer be among the five selections to the local academic squad. Student-athletes are eligible for Academic All-Area consideration by being a significant contributor to their teams while maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher.

Butler is a Mechanical Engineering and has been named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team in each of the last two seasons. He also was named to the inaugural Villanova Athletic Director's Honor Roll during the Fall of 2016. Butler finished in second-place at the Finegan Invitational, where he carded scores of 73-71=144 (E). Also during the City 6 Tournament he finished T-5th where he had a round of 73 (+2).

The rest of the Philadelphia Inquirer All-Area Men's Golf Team included Vamsi Damerla, Swarthmore College, Yoseph Dance, Drexel University, Nick DiMaio, Swarthmore College, Amay Poria, University of Pennsylvania, and Drew Taylor, Saint Joseph's University. Dance was voted All-Area Performer of the Year.
